Day 108 - 59 Days To Go

St. Patrick's Day - and I'm running. Not drinking, running. This was the one day of my training that I was dreading. Instead of going out and drinking plenty of alcohol - there would be no going out, no drinking. Maybe I am getting a bit too wrapped up in all this.

It was a beautiful day outside! The first chance to run in shorts, no gloves, no hat - so I did. It was a quality session. 2 miles at easy pace, 20 minutes at threshold pace, 10 minutes at easy pace, 20 minutes at threshold pace and finally 2 miles at easy pace. The first 20 minutes I was pretty much right on my goal of 4:20 minutes/km (4:22) and I was close enough with my second 20 minutes (4:27).

I went a bit further than 2 miles at the end - I wanted to do a loop for my second 20 minutes at threshold so I could avoid any lights. It was great - didn't have to stop at all - but it meant extending my run by a few kilometers. In total - 19.62km over 1 hour 40 minutes.

I also had martial arts tonight - was a bit worried about it - but except for some soreness it didn't prove to be a problem. We'll see how I am tomorrow.

  1. Long sleeve Ts and shorts are the best.

What do you eat before your runs? How much time do you wait after to prevent cramps?

  2. Hey Jason - instant oatmeal with blueberries. My runs feel a lot more productive if I have that just before. As for time to wait - with oatmeal I could run pretty close to right after. I haven't yet had cramping issues (with any food/time period).
