My longest run to date. 21.04km, 1 hour 51 minutes. The goal was 25% of my weekly mileage. This week my mileage should be 100% - so 85km. I'm not sure if I'll hit 85km this week (because I haven't been building consistently over the past four weeks due to my foot problem) - but I wanted to get in this long run.
I ran from my condo in Burlington (off of Walker's Line) to my Dad's place in Oakville (off of 4th Line). I obviously couldn't take the highway, so I ran down to Lakeshore.
The sidewalks were mostly clear thanks to the recent thaw and there were some stretches on Lakeshore that was very enjoyable thanks to the surroundings.
The goal was to have a 5:23min/km pace - which is considered an easy pace. I ended up with a 5:19min/km pace. Going faster than the goal pace can be damaging to your training because you're not accomplishing what you need to. However, 4 seconds off is close enough.
Because the run was over an hour long, I brought along a snack: PowerBar Energy Bites - Chocolate flavour - chosen at random at Metro Grocery store. 5 balls of energy that I packed into the pouch on my water bottle belt. The goal is to see how easy it is to consume and whether there's any negative effects as I continue to run.
I had my first "bite" at the 45 minute mark and then another three about 10-15 minutes apart. The taste was good and it had no impact on my stomach - however - it wasn't the easiest thing to eat while you're running. It was tough to chew and I had to keep pausing my chewing so I could breath in enough air.
When I arrived at my Dad's - I immediately had a glass of Chocolate Milk (or Chocolate Dairy Beverage), then after 15 minutes I slowly ate my bagel and peanut butter.
It didn't take long before my body started to stiffen - but it was a good sore.
